Dr. Vrajesh Shah today is reckoned as one of the finest orthopaedic surgeons in the country and is internationally recognised for his exemplary work in the area of Robotic Personalised knee replacement surgery. Given his expertise and experience, he was recently invited by the prestigious Smith & Nephew Academy, Singapore as a faculty for Robotic knee arthroplasty instructional course. He was faculty for teaching Total Knee Arthroplasty to a 9-member team of orthopaedic delegates from India.
Dr. Vrajesh Shah is Orthopaedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon at well-known super speciality orthopaedic hospital – VIROC Hospital. He comes with over 23 years of rich experience and has performed over 4,000 joint replacement surgeries. Dr Shah has also performed over 12,000 other orthopaedic surgeries which include spine surgeries, closed nailing, poly trauma and routine trauma procedures.
Along with Dr. Shah, Dr. Rajiv Paradkar also works as a senior consultant for Joint replacement surgeries. His work in Hip arthroplasty (THR) is unmatched. He has an experience of more than 33 years & has performed over 4000 joint replacement surgeries.
VIROC Hospital today accounts for conducting highest number of joint replacement surgeries in Vadodara. In last few months itself the hospital celebrated an important milestone by conducting 1,500 robotic joint replacement surgeries in the city.

With the recent stint as a faculty at the Smith & Nephew Hospital in Singapore, Dr Shah brings much needed international focus to Vadodara – Gujarat’s fastest growing smart city. He was specially invited to share his expertise within Cadaveric demonstration and instructional course on robotic joint replacement surgery.
Talking about his international assignment, Dr Shah shares, “The course was in-depth where there were 9 delegates from across India – went to Smith & Nephew Academy, a medical facility that has exclusive Cadaveric laboratory. The cadaver is preserved so nicely enabling to train people, like you are training on live human beings. There were 5 cadaveric stations – I along with an expert from south India trained them with level of perfection to perform Robotic Knee replacement surgery on Cori robotics system by Smith & Nephew.”
He adds, “The reason I was invited was to show how specialised use of robotics is done for knee replacement technically called as kinematic alignment concept or a personalized knee replacement. Robotic system can be used in many different ways, but a personalized replacement concept is a newer concept by which it improves patient satisfaction to a great extent. And patient can start stair climbing on the same day of the surgery.”
When it comes to knee care, Dr. Shah feels that each patient has been gifted by a different set of knees. No two cases are same and using personalised knee replacement surgery, doctors can restore the life, age and health of the knees. Using personalised robotic technique, Dr. Shah can enable patient walking with knees which has been brought back to pre- Arthritis state.
Dr Shah now aims to train over 300 orthopaedic surgeons in this specialised surgical procedure. The idea is to train surgeons on this Innovative technique of Robotic natural knee replacement surgery.
“The focus is now to help people lead fitter and happier life by restoring their knee health,” he signs off.
